I, too,  hope we will have a follow-up picnic or something before too long.  This was the first I'd heard about it, but I would be able to help organize it.  (While I'm at it, I'll volunteer Becky, too!)  I have more talking to do with everybody, just like Marsha, Susan and others said!  Maybe we'll launch the idea (soon?) at the post-reunion meeting?

comment by Amy Shulman Haney

David, here's a secret:  my mom got so fed up with paying the price of those Villagers (and anyone who was in Sociology class with me knows ALL about my crazy mom!!), that she actually made me FAUX Villagers!  Oh, the shame!  And Susan, maybe if I got my mom to sew two of those suckers together I could fit in them, but that's about the only way!

comment by Mike Allison

Car tag. That was a blast! I remember cutting through that easement Ben was talking about several times in my old Falcon station wagon.Since I lived on Leafmore, I could duck into my driveway to escape persuit.

comment by Steve Lewis (again)

http://www.ghsfha.com/index.phpgo to "Briarcliff" and see our football records, coaches, etc from every year starting in 1960.This will bring back memories!! Good luck

comment by Ricky Corless

I was at that game Mike.  Santos of Brazil vs Atlanta Chiefs. Pele kicked the ball between not 1 but 2 defenders legs before scoring! Did we go as a group?

comment by Mike Rodgers

Anybody know whatever happened to Miss Counts?  She seems to be one of everybody's favorite.

comment by Kathryn Underwood Hill

Mike:  Glad to remember someone else remembers Pele -- I own his soccer shoes; he even signed them!

comment by Mike Chase

I remember (at least I think I do): - The spiritual side of Young Life - Jumbo lunches in the cafeteria for only $.55 - Stunt Night (hey, consistant 2nd place isn't so bad)  - Circle pins (still don’t know which side means what) - Those rip-cord dresses - After school fights at the little league field - The weekend the stadium light posts were loosened and fell - Gatlinburg ski trip (without snow) - First beer (thanks Lynn Farmer) - Pep week - 8-tracks - Motorcade to away football games - “Little Bunny Foo-Foo” - Tornado lookouts stationed on the stadium - Basketball tournament games at Tech’s Dome - “Affirmation Vietnam” counter-protest at the Atlanta Stadium - Pele playing soccer in Atlanta - Cigar nights with ‘the guys’ - “Grub Day” our precursor to casual Fridays - Gas was only $.25 - Miss Counts

comment by Andy Chambers

Car tag. If I remember correctly, one car was "it" and the other cars tried to catch him - block him so that he couldn't move.  Hence the power easement was a discovered escape route. It was always played in Leafmore  because it was a  large, but contained space.

comment by David Dyer

Bobby, is it too late for you to "round up" the remaining band members for reunion entertainment? The Prophets--a truly awsome band. Ben, how did the car tag work--and not sure where that easement is--leafmore hills?

comment by Ricky Corless

well, you guys had more car fun with young life than i did.  at a young life meeting in victoria estates our junior year (evening meeting) i accidentally ran across the middle of a neighbor's front yard on my way out with a carload of equally stupid people who will remain annonymous (did i spell that right?) [Bill Bowen not Andy Chambers].  this neighbor was out of the house and tracking me before i could get away.  he got my license plate number and my dad got my driver's license for 6 months! 6 months!  I should have been shot!! i think i turned agnostic for a while, but i got over it!

comment by Susan Winfrey Smith

David, word has it that Amy can still fit into those villager outfits...disqusting. Not really sure about those "Pappogolo (???) flats".

comment by Ben Jones

David.  CAR TAG!!  What a great game.  Invented, I believe, by Terry Simmons.  By the way, Terry and Ann (Laney), if you happen to be eavesdropping on this web site, sign up.  We would all love to see you both.  Back to car tag, do you remember a power easement near Alice Holley's house where you could hop the curb and cut over to another street.  Great escape move!

comment by David Dyer

Amy, word has it the you still have a few of those villager skirts & blouses.  Are you really gonna wear a few of those for the reunion?  I sure hope so!  By the way, how much does it cost to re-sole a pair of Pappagolo flats?

comment by Bobby Rogers

Well I remember it well....but it was John Fristoe who had the boss hog...he had a '55 Chevy named "Festus" that had all the goodies, bored out 327, big Holly 4 bbl carb...we got nailed up for drag racing on Claremont  Road right in front of the VA Hosptial (90 mph in a 45 zone).  Cost Fristoe his license for 90 days and he couldn't take his bad ride to Daytona...so Gene Hardeman drove instead.  HA HA!See everyone next weekend.....BobbyStill a Southern Boy at heart!

comment by Jennie McCorvey Fleming, class 72

Does anyone remember an actual suit of armor next to the main trophy case and next to the door to B-hall?  Several members of the class of '68, '71, '72, and '73 have asked me if I remember it.  I don't recall ever having seen a suit of armor at Briarcliff, otherwise we would have seen it in the yearbooks and it would have been a "celebrity" of many pranks.  Just curious...........

comment by Mike Rodgers

Anybody remember Bobby Rogers maroon Ford Falcon?

comment by Susan Winfrey Smith

I just finished looking through my 1967 year book (can't find 1968). The things people write!  Sandy wrote: Someday when you are old and ancient - about 40 - you will look back at this page and remember all we've done - or maybe it's all the things we shouldn't have done...one of these days when we are both married and have hundreds of children - get our your annual and relive our high school days but never forget me. And Amy wrote: I know we'll be friends for a long time after this and if it seems that all the silly things we've done become insignificant  - don't let them them, because they all amount to something many people don't have and that's a friend like you. This made me realize that after 40 years we still remember and we still treasure all those days we had together at BHS. Great times - Great People. We Rock. Can't wait!!!

comment by bill henderson

great to see this 'thing' come together.  much appreciation to all that have worked so hard to find everyone.  looking forward to seeing everyone on saturday.

comment by Andy Chambers

I remember the crossing guard. She stepped confidently into the cross walk and continued towards the center of the road as you guys skidded through behind her. I don't know why we weren't all locked up.

comment by Pat Fox

I remember:Ben Jones' CorvairLynne Barfield assisting me with the writing of a poem in Mrs. Jones' advance composition class.  We borrowed the lyrics from " The Way You Do The Things You Do" by the Temptations.  Mrs. Jones was clueless.Gary Brooks speaking "fluent"  Spanish in Mr. Powell's (Fred's) class.Beating Decatur in basketball -- David Dyer shut down their star whose street name was "Cool Breeze"Mrs. Fackler's English classLosing to Lakeside in football -- even baloons didn't helpLosing to Lakeside in basketballBeating Lakeside to win the first DeKalb County volleyball championshipMickey Pitts' father shouting from the stands that he was going to buy Mickey a "G.O.T." comment by Amy Shulman Haney

Ok, enough of this silly "guy" stuff.  Girls, who remembers the mandatory "uniform" of Villager dresses, Weejun loafers and John Romaine pocketbooks?  My poor parents - I drove them crazy until I got all the appropriate attire!

comment by Jim Mozley

Ben, I remember the classic Dyer door blocking move. That became a favorite tactic. I also remember Mark Mile's [class of '69] model 'T' being in the race one morning. We snuck out during the closing YL prayer to get the lead, because top speed was about 38. We held both doors open and did a zig-zag maneuver, but we were eventually overtaken. Do you remember car tag in 11th grade? And Mike Chase... what about that poor fellow Bush? { not the pres.] Jim

comment by Mike Chase

I remember the YL races too.  I can still see a crossing guard's huge eyes as our car slid past her one morning.  Apparently, she underestimated the speed limit on N. Druid Hills.  Thankfully, Mozley must have been driving since we missed her.

comment by Ben Jones

Yes, David, I do remember the early morning Young Life breakfasts.  I am pretty sure we had you, me, Andy Chambers, Terry Simmons, Jim Mosley, Mike Chase, Bill Henderson, John Forrest, and a whole bunch more.  What I remember more is that when we finally realized that our parents loved the fact that we were goint to YL, we started inventing YL events in order to do other things.  I also remember that you invented the best move ever in the race to school.  As I was about to overtake you on N. Druid Hills Rd., you on the right, me on the left, you opened your driver-side door to block me.  Almost took your door off.

comment by David Dyer

Ben, help me out with this -- Do remember those early morning Young Life meetings? We would gorge on Krispy Creams, share life experiences, then jump into our "chariots of fire" and RACE to school.  NASCAR didn't have anything on us!   Who else was involved with that group?

comment by VeronicaCarey

Help!  My August 19th "Memories" post has disappeared!  Is this cyber-senility, or censorship?  I did name a few names, but that was only the innocent stuff!!I know it was there--Susan Irwin saw it, but maybe I remembered a few things I wasn't supposed to?  Probably just some technical glitch, but someone let me know if I need to repost with just people's initials or something.Veronica (Ronnie)

comment by Andy Chambers

Hello everyone. I've really enjoyed reading all the memories. I distinctly remember the Earl the Pearl song. Earl, himself, escorted me to the office, confirming my thoughts that , except for Bill Bowen, I was the one who always got blamed for things that I didn't do. I knew that Mozley was involved and I always suspected Mike Ross. I never suspected Larry Stine. I have arranged things so that I can be at the poolparty on Friday. Not sure about Saturday. I'm looking forward to see everyone.

comment by Ricky

Ben,You drink about 10 of those cans from that picture from Myrtle Beach, you drink a bottle of whatever Bobby Dodge has in that same picture, then at about 3:00 AM you post.  That ought to do it! Golf OutingAnybody else want to jump in.  Got room for a couple of more.  This is a great way to kick off the weekend!! Send me an email.  Here is the group so far:Coach Hixon, Coach Hambrick, Jim Underwood, Cole Van Houten, Richard Hayslett, Tom Strueber, Lynn Farmer, Tate Farmer, Ben Jones, Ricky Corless, Andrew Corless, Tom Waller, Turk Mckinnon, Bill Peake, Alec Alexander, Mickey Pitts, Chris Lake, and  Rex Karger (guest of Barbie Ludzinski Watson).

HELP!  Does anyone have a 12-step program for getting over a web site?  I've become addicted to this one.  How much fun is this?

comment by Bonnie Bowen

Hi everyone..............We are now 9 days away from our Reunion and everyone seems to really be excited!  But, I need your help!!  Rick sent out an email blast concerning awards that we will given out at the Reunion for the following categories:1.  Married the longest (need date and year)2.  Most children3.  Most grandchildren4.  Traveled the farthest5.  Most interesting jobSo far I have only received 3 replys!  Not good!  So, please send me your information so that we can get these awards ready for next week!We are getting great responses to the reunion and it is really going  be a great event and fun time!  Looking forward to seeing everyone!

comment by Barbara Lodzinski Watson

OMG - reading all these posts has brought back so many memories! I especially remember starting 8th grade and being so overwhelmed, sock hops in the gym, hearing about the Kennedy assassination on the intercom in homeroom, spending the summer of '65 at Kittridge pool listening to "Satisfaction" and flirting with the lifeguards, trying out for cheerleading in front of the whole student body and not making it (I'm scarred for life LOL), working on floats and making posters, going to GA Tech for the basketball playoffs, walking the halls and not recognizing people because I didn't have my glasses on and everyone thought I was a snob!, but mostly, growing up in a wonderful era and actually getting a good education at a public school. Can't wait to see everyone again.

comment by VeronicaCarey

Rick, I tried sending you a PM with a space in between my first & last name, but the system rejected it as not being a match.  There is no being "more careful in the future", that is how my name is encoded at the website.Relax, already!Veronica

comment by Susan Irwin Grills

I agree, Ben.  I have gotten addicted to this website too!!  And Veronica, you are right. I had nearly forgotten the day at Kittredge when Mr. McClure brought in a still. I also remember he kept making disparaging remarks about "Revenuers" until Frances Krebs raised her hand and announced that her father worked for the IRS.

comment by Bruce Beck

Congratulations to all for making it this far.    The Beck Brothers, Daryl-66, Bruce-69, Stuart-72, Randy-76?Have a blast at your reunion,

comment by Mike Rodgers

This is great!  Even at 58 years old I still remember most of these names.  We are all members of the Geezer League (55+). Baby Boomers, some Viet Nam Vets, grandparents, gray hair and bifocals...whoda thunk it?

comment by Susan Salyer Wilson

I have loved reading all of this, but I am wondering- I must have been the original "clueless", because the guys seemed to have been having way more fun than the girls, judging by the "Spring Break" ice tea drinkers. Girls, were we sheltered beyond belief ? Instead of Daytona like the guys, we were probably the ones trying to make tissue flowers out of the rolls of toilet paper that didn't quite make it into the trees.

comment by Amy Shulman Haney

Awww...Ben Jones, I refuse to believe you were always the dumpee.  I remember sitting behind you in Miss Counts' homeroom and tormenting you unmercifully and you were always so sweet and patient.  I had quite the secret crush on you but, alas, it was unrequited.  Sigh.

comment by Lynne Waller

OK, this is going to be a bit sappy.  I was talking to Jan O'Shields last night (she lives in Boston). We were discussing how most of these entries are peppered with good news.  But for those of you who are reading these entries and thinking "well, my life hasn't been such good news" I want you to know that underlying all of these stories is disappointment, sadness, difficult challenges, and even tragedy.  But when you think of 1968, you emotionally go back to the time when your greatest concern was a decent grade or a good hair day.  Those were good times.  So, please, if you are reluctant to contact us or come to the reunion because of a not so perfect life, know that all of us are with you.  So, come.  Reminisce.  Enjoy stepping back in time.  I don't think you'll regret it.  And we'd all love to see you.

comment by jane wallace reed

Okay eveyone,  for all the dumb stuff we did in highschool I think everyone will remember this one... Dekalb Co. water tower on Clairmont Rd. with "JANE" painted on it.  George climbed it with a paint can and brush(no little spray can) and did his art work along with GR& JW. Later that yr. Jimmy Whitehead also added his initals with his girlfriends.  It stayed there for yrs. until Dekalb Co. repainted the tower. Thankfully no one got hurt or arrested!!

comment by The Committee

We have reached a milestone number of 70 registered classmates! Number 68 was MIKE ROSS!!  Congratulations Mike.  You will be our special guest at the fall presentation of Why you can't smoke pot in class held at the Georgia School of Arts (formerly the BHS cafeteria).Hey, we're not finished yet.  Time for you looky-loos to Get er done!

comment by Phyllis Houston Teel

We would never have rolled Ben Jone's yard.

comment by Ben Jones

George:  You climbed the water tower?  I couldn't even climb to the top of Adams Stadium.  And Phyllis, thanks for re-naming me Ben Jone (see her post below).  You never were very strong at possessives.  I ask the committee to amend my name tag accordingly.  And, if anyone rolled my yard, it was not for the reason mentioned.  I was always the "dumpee".  Poor me.

comment by jim Mozley

Larry, How in the world are you? I was the guy who lost a day. We locked the door when we played the music over the intercom. I had access because as VP of the student body and Chief Nerd in charge, you may remember that I led the pledge every morning of our senior year (when I made it in time). So we put in the tape which you, Terry Simmons, and your cohorts provided and let it rip. They did a shut down of the office and held us in there. I was released to the custody of my dad, who I remember came in to school, interrupted from some meeting and dressed in his power blazer. He carried on the serious veneer of being concerned about our crime until we got in the car, and I explained the whole deal. He got it, and I got a day off. Still a vivid memory of grace. Jim

comment by Larry Stine

Does anyone remember C Hall being evacuated because of a chemistry accident? Sorry about that!Rock music being played in C Hall during class changes and the ceiling being ripped out looking for the music? (they never learned it was two speakers in lockers balanced to sound like it was coming out of the ceiling.)One morning the song was Earl the Pearl and the 4 Jumbos?  Someone else missed a day of school for that.
