Yes, David, I do remember the early morning Young Life breakfasts.  I am pretty sure we had you, me, Andy Chambers, Terry Simmons, Jim Mosley, Mike Chase, Bill Henderson, John Forrest, and a whole bunch more.  What I remember more is that when we finally realized that our parents loved the fact that we were goint to YL, we started inventing YL events in order to do other things.  I also remember that you invented the best move ever in the race to school.  As I was about to overtake you on N. Druid Hills Rd., you on the right, me on the left, you opened your driver-side door to block me.  Almost took your door off.

comment by David Dyer

Ben, help me out with this -- Do remember those early morning Young Life meetings? We would gorge on Krispy Creams, share life experiences, then jump into our "chariots of fire" and RACE to school.  NASCAR didn't have anything on us!   Who else was involved with that group?

comment by Andy Chambers

Hello everyone. I've really enjoyed reading all the memories. I distinctly remember the Earl the Pearl song. Earl, himself, escorted me to the office, confirming my thoughts that , except for Bill Bowen, I was the one who always got blamed for things that I didn't do. I knew that Mozley was involved and I always suspected Mike Ross. I never suspected Larry Stine. I have arranged things so that I can be at the poolparty on Friday. Not sure about Saturday. I'm looking forward to see everyone.

Help!  My August 19th "Memories" post has disappeared!  Is this cyber-senility, or censorship?  I did name a few names, but that was only the innocent stuff!!I know it was there--Susan Irwin saw it, but maybe I remembered a few things I wasn't supposed to?  Probably just some technical glitch, but someone let me know if I need to repost with just people's initials or something.Veronica (Ronnie)

comment by Linda Bell

I so-o-o-o remember Mrs. Newton's Latin Class.  Yes we called her Endora, also The Fig.  She periodically said I was "guffing off" (pronounced exactly that way, like stuffing.) She went through this pop-quiz jag for a while, and once right after she gave out the tests we had a SCHEDULED fire drill. We just took our tests outside and cribbed all the answers with each other, and came back in and got A's.  She never suspected a thing. This is weird, reading about the reunion and how everybody is, and being so far away (if you start digging now, you'll end up where I am, in Phnom Penh Cambodia.)  It's still pouring outside, monsoon season isn't quite over - but  unlike the rain in Atlanta in November, it's warm and dries off quickly.  We've got bananas and coconuts growing in the yard as testimonial.   Since I couldn't come to the reunion, come visit and we can reune over here-- I'll take you to Angkor Wat.    Linda

I have such fond memories of Coach Ramos and a short story to tell. We were at football practice one day and Coach Ramos was a new coach. We were doing tackling drills and a guy hurt is shoulder.  My team mate was on the ground and Coach Ramos comes running up and get down on his kness and starts yelling into the teammates ear. "Do you believe in Coach Ramos" Do you believe in Coach Ramos" and the guy stands up and start yelling back at Coach Ramos " Yes, I believe in Coach Ramos" Coach Ramos said " I can't hear you, Do you believe in Coach Ramos" and my teammate said almost screaming " Yes, I believe in Coach Ramos" and Coach Ramos says " Your Healed, get back in line." I think about Coach Ramos and smile, he did have such an impact on my life, it was wonderful to be able to talk with him at our reunion.  I loved Coach Ramos and will miss him. Mike

comment by Susan Irwin Grills

I agree, Ben.  I have gotten addicted to this website too!!  And Veronica, you are right. I had nearly forgotten the day at Kittredge when Mr. McClure brought in a still. I also remember he kept making disparaging remarks about "Revenuers" until Frances Krebs raised her hand and announced that her father worked for the IRS.

comment by VeronicaCarey

Rick, I tried sending you a PM with a space in between my first & last name, but the system rejected it as not being a match.  There is no being "more careful in the future", that is how my name is encoded at the website.Relax, already!Veronica

OMG - reading all these posts has brought back so many memories! I especially remember starting 8th grade and being so overwhelmed, sock hops in the gym, hearing about the Kennedy assassination on the intercom in homeroom, spending the summer of '65 at Kittridge pool listening to "Satisfaction" and flirting with the lifeguards, trying out for cheerleading in front of the whole student body and not making it (I'm scarred for life LOL), working on floats and making posters, going to GA Tech for the basketball playoffs, walking the halls and not recognizing people because I didn't have my glasses on and everyone thought I was a snob!, but mostly, growing up in a wonderful era and actually getting a good education at a public school. Can't wait to see everyone again.

Still recalling nothing about sheep and goats, I am wondering how it is I ended up on a farm with a bunch of cows.  Neither sheep or goats allowed here!  And if it is any consolation to you goats, I don't remember any more Latin than ya'll do.

Still living in Atlanta area and have been happily married for 38 years.  We have 2 sons, no grands.  We have a Christmas tree farm in Western NC and spend most of our spare time there.  We also are quite involved in our church and have fallen in love with missions - stateside and abroad.  Tommy's mom is the only remaining parent we have and she moved in right next door to us last spring.  It has been a blessing.  Look forward to hearing from other classmates.  This feels quite surreal!

comment by Phil Houston

Hello Youngsters!  Well I figured that since I married a Baronette of the '68 class, Carol Tanner, and since my sister, Phyllis Houston Teel, is coming that means I can come too.  So we will all be there with a special guest appearance from the BIG CHIEF of the class of '65, Alan North and his wife Sheryl.

comment by Linda Bell

I'm currently living a little far to make the reunion:  Bangladesh, and moving to Cambodia in Sept.  I'm working for US Aid at the Embassy and it's hopping here in the third world.  Actually it's a really fun second career after I spent my first 30 yrs in D.C. working for the NEA, Smithsonian, and Inst for Museum and Library Services.  Working now for the poorest of the poor is quite a change, and for a break you get to hop off to Bangkok or Nepal and hike in the Himalayas, 45 min. away.  Bali for Christmas.   Does anybody do Facebook?  It's so high school, I figured we'd all be doing it.  Well, I've got more info and pictures there if anybody wants to look me up.It's been great catching up on everybody through these messages.  Tell the rest to keep 'em coming!  I am sorry I'll miss everybody in person, and thanks to all of you who are working hard on it.  Linda Bell (yep, still Bell. Never married but with a wonderful signif. other now.)

comment by Lynne Waller

OK, this is going to be a bit sappy.  I was talking to Jan O'Shields last night (she lives in Boston). We were discussing how most of these entries are peppered with good news.  But for those of you who are reading these entries and thinking "well, my life hasn't been such good news" I want you to know that underlying all of these stories is disappointment, sadness, difficult challenges, and even tragedy.  But when you think of 1968, you emotionally go back to the time when your greatest concern was a decent grade or a good hair day.  Those were good times.  So, please, if you are reluctant to contact us or come to the reunion because of a not so perfect life, know that all of us are with you.  So, come.  Reminisce.  Enjoy stepping back in time.  I don't think you'll regret it.  And we'd all love to see you.

comment by Amy Shulman Haney

Awww...Ben Jones, I refuse to believe you were always the dumpee.  I remember sitting behind you in Miss Counts' homeroom and tormenting you unmercifully and you were always so sweet and patient.  I had quite the secret crush on you but, alas, it was unrequited.  Sigh.

comment by Susan Salyer Wilson

I have loved reading all of this, but I am wondering- I must have been the original "clueless", because the guys seemed to have been having way more fun than the girls, judging by the "Spring Break" ice tea drinkers. Girls, were we sheltered beyond belief ? Instead of Daytona like the guys, we were probably the ones trying to make tissue flowers out of the rolls of toilet paper that didn't quite make it into the trees.

comment by Mike Rodgers

This is great!  Even at 58 years old I still remember most of these names.  We are all members of the Geezer League (55+). Baby Boomers, some Viet Nam Vets, grandparents, gray hair and bifocals...whoda thunk it?

comment by David Dyer

It was terrific seeing 3 good friends yesterday.  Bonnie Bowen, Brent Armstrong, Ben Jones and I spent the day on Lake Burton.  We spent the day eating, visiting, and sharing funny stories of our past.  Brent said, "it's surreal to visit with friends that you have known for 50 years  ago as children."  How can we be that old?  Never the less, we decided on a date for a fall class event on the lake---this will be fun!

comment by Ben Jones

Just spent the day with David Dyer (our host), Brent Armstrong and Bonnie Bowen at Lake Burton. What a great day of shared memories (such as they are).  I remember so much that never happened, and so little of what did.

The reunion looks like alot of fun -- great job of putting it together. Life is great in the State of Washington so the distance will keep me from attending but I will be thinking of all of you. 40 years sure went by in a hurry !!!

comment by Phyllis Houston Teel

We would never have rolled Ben Jone's yard.

comment by The Committee

We have reached a milestone number of 70 registered classmates! Number 68 was MIKE ROSS!!  Congratulations Mike.  You will be our special guest at the fall presentation of Why you can't smoke pot in class held at the Georgia School of Arts (formerly the BHS cafeteria).Hey, we're not finished yet.  Time for you looky-loos to Get er done!

comment by jane wallace reed

Okay eveyone,  for all the dumb stuff we did in highschool I think everyone will remember this one... Dekalb Co. water tower on Clairmont Rd. with "JANE" painted on it.  George climbed it with a paint can and brush(no little spray can) and did his art work along with GR& JW. Later that yr. Jimmy Whitehead also added his initals with his girlfriends.  It stayed there for yrs. until Dekalb Co. repainted the tower. Thankfully no one got hurt or arrested!!

comment by Ben Jones

George:  You climbed the water tower?  I couldn't even climb to the top of Adams Stadium.  And Phyllis, thanks for re-naming me Ben Jone (see her post below).  You never were very strong at possessives.  I ask the committee to amend my name tag accordingly.  And, if anyone rolled my yard, it was not for the reason mentioned.  I was always the "dumpee".  Poor me.

comment by Larry Stine

Does anyone remember C Hall being evacuated because of a chemistry accident? Sorry about that!Rock music being played in C Hall during class changes and the ceiling being ripped out looking for the music? (they never learned it was two speakers in lockers balanced to sound like it was coming out of the ceiling.)One morning the song was Earl the Pearl and the 4 Jumbos?  Someone else missed a day of school for that.

comment by Gay Fleming Bosland

Right after submitting an earlier post, I realized that I had left the apostrophe off of else’s.  I thought, “Gosh, this is Briarcliff.  Someone will probably correct me.  Surely, maturity has prevailed.”  And then Ben…now you see why your yard was rolled.   And, I love the confessions (although I have no idea what Lynne is talking about).  I remember the mysterious music on C hall!  And, Jane, that's lasted how many years?

comment by jim Mozley

Larry, How in the world are you? I was the guy who lost a day. We locked the door when we played the music over the intercom. I had access because as VP of the student body and Chief Nerd in charge, you may remember that I led the pledge every morning of our senior year (when I made it in time). So we put in the tape which you, Terry Simmons, and your cohorts provided and let it rip. They did a shut down of the office and held us in there. I was released to the custody of my dad, who I remember came in to school, interrupted from some meeting and dressed in his power blazer. He carried on the serious veneer of being concerned about our crime until we got in the car, and I explained the whole deal. He got it, and I got a day off. Still a vivid memory of grace. Jim

Due to a special request, we are ok in Houston.  Hurricane was a little scary but we made it through safely.  I wish I could say that for all my neighbors but still there are many with no power.  Phyllis Houston Teel

Terrific BRIARPATCH, Ricky!  These are a few of my reunion memories:Long Hugs - Randy Campbell asking me "did I bring all my x- wives to the reunion?" - Re-living our last basketball game with coach Hixson and Ben Jones - Looking around for Gail Williamson - visiting with Hobie Whitney then watching he and Jan Thibadeau "burning up" the dance floor - Appologizing to Anne Green for being a lousy next door neighbor - hugging Mary Shults a dozen or more times - Not wanting the reunion DVD to end - Sharing Lake Burton stories with Judy Futch - Telling Tricia Gaston what an unbelievable job she did on "The Shield" --40 years later - Mike Allison explain the process of brewing single malt scotch - Seeing Libby Carlson for only 10 seconds on Friday night - Not eating on Saturday night - All the fabulous LBD's (little black dresses) - Not visiting with Molly Myer's & wanting to - How "buff" Kenny Brooks is - Sharing early childhood stories with Bill Bell - Trying to talk Cathy Davis to attend another reunion - Sharing desert with Ricky Corless and Mike/Christy Roberts - Taking silly, fun photos of Sandy, John, and Bobbie - Not taking any photos Friday night & not enough Saturday - Thankful that I did not attend college with Cole Van Houten (we'd still be in Jail) - Visiting with Becky Birdsong Friday night by the pool - Trying to figure out Amy's "youthful secret" - The pure joy of renewing old friendships - Getting to know classmates for the very 1st time--40 years later - THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!

comment by Amy Shulman Haney

Ok, now between Ricky's and David's posts, I'm definitely getting teary-eyed.  I just can't say enough how fabulous it was to see so many friends, and immediately recognize you and talk to you as if no time had passed at all.  I see from the pictures, however, that I didn't get to talk nearly everyone - how can two days not be enough time?  We have to do this again.  Soon.  Love you all.

comment by Mike Chase

The multi-class BBQ last weekend was great.  A lot of our class didn't make it, but we had a wonderful time anyway -- talking all about the ones not there.  Thanks to those of you responsible for putting it together.  See you next year.

comment by Ricky Corless

Y'all come see us now!

40 years...hard to imagine.  I was glad to hear that the school board decided not to sell the schools to Sembler, I would hate for our reunion to become a wake.

Great to come across these plans! I haven't been able to make other reunions, but I hope to be there for this one!

Gay, your guilty, who did you roll?

comment by Lynne Waller

Rick-We'll never tell....however, if any one of us had recently been "dumped" ('60s word) the dumper became the yard of choice.  I don't ever remember you being on that list, but some of your cohorts probably were.
