Susan, to make the flowers, fold the Kleenex in half lenthwise.  Then accordian pleat it from one short end to the other short end.  Put a bobby pin down the middle of the now approx 1" wide folded tissue, and tear the edges off.  Then begin unfolding each separate layer, pulling it toward the center, where the bobbi pin has been pulled tight.  And no, I have not made a single one of these since H.S. but I made so many I will probably never forget how!

Hi everyone:I wanted to let y'all know that every year in either November or December there is a Annual Briarcliff Holiday Get Together for all classes from Briarcliff.  This year the Get Together is planned for Saturday, December 27th starting at 7:00 p.m. at Benchwarmers Sports Grill located in the Williamsburg Shopping Center at the corner of Clairmont and Briarcliff.  This will be the 16th year that we have had this event and it would be great to see as many people possible from the Class of '68!!  There might be alot of people here for the Christmas holidays and this would be another opportunity for all of us to get together!  So mark your calendars and plan on being there!!!  Pass the word anound to people from other classes that might not know about the get together!  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

comment by Ricky Corless

Mission accomplished.  There are some folks in the BHS Holiday Party picture that I could not name.  If you know, let it go!

comment by Stephanie Tiffin Yearwood

Wow!  Has it really been 40 years?  Hello to all my friends responsible for so many wonderful memories!  I am now living in Phoenix, Arizona.  I have been married for almost 39 years and have two wonderful children.  My daughter is 33 and my son is 28.  I taught at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, for three years, after graduating from Georgia State University in for three years and then became a stay at home mom for 18 years. After moving to Phoenix 13 years ago, I began teaching multiply challenged deaf students at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf.  I have completed two Masters Degrees from Northern Arizona University.  Retirement is no where in sight for me since I love what I am doing!  My husband, Jack, works at the Phoenix Rescue Mission feeding the hungry and sheltering battered women and their children.  Life is good!

Ricky, yes I do remember those "stadiums!"  Coach Hambrick would weight us down with  a 20 pound vest, a pair of 3 pound ankle weights and tell us to give him 50!  I guess they didn't have child protection services back then!  By the way, WHO was Earl the pearl & Sugar Bear?

comment by Earl the Pearl

David, you probably remember me as Assistant Principal Earl Williams.  The booster club gave me that nickname.  So I think you can guess who Sugar Bear was!

comment by David Dyer

Rick, could sugar bear be the asst. principal--Hightower?  We affectionately called him "Mr. Low Castle."  Do you remember our sophmore year when that idiot kick me out of class office and Libby off the homecoming court---that was a day to remember!  Years later-I heard ole "low castle"  terrorized the wrong kid @ another school and got beat up--I couldn't help but smile.

comment by Susan (Irwin) Grills

I have a good memory. I still remember all the words to the fight song & Alma Mater. But all this talk about Kleenex reminds me of something I have totally forgotten.  I no longer remember how to make a flower out of Kleenex!  How many Kleenex flowers do you suppose we all made for various homecoming floats over the course of 5 years?

comment by Harry Jaynes

Enough of this "Sugar Bear" business!

Hi everyone.  I stumbled on this site and was very surprised.  I live near Northlake and and happily married to Melanie Mulkey Long, a BHS grad of 1976.  I work in the IT field (geek stuff) and have been doing so for 25 years.  Hope I can make the reunion on such a short notice.  Looking forwarding to keeping contact with everyone.  I attended my wife's BHS reunion of last year at the school!  It still looks the same inside.  Remember the senior courtyard?

OMG, what a great video.  Ricky, when you are done with the Kleenex, mail it over.

comment by Kathryn Underwood Hill

Okay guys, thanks for the compliments but you should have seen me putting the scenes together -- not sure if I cried because of the end result or because it was finally completed!  BTW, you all know I own a majority of stock in Kleenex!  Couldn't have done it without you!Our Reunion Committee has worked very hard to bring all of us together, please don't disappoint your friends -- SHOW UP! Besides, Ricky has a bet with the Class of '67 Reunion Committee & we want to win.

It's bragging rights Kathryn, did you know they won stunt night all 5 years they were stompin the halls.Ben, I emailed you.  click file/print/preferences/paper-quality/kleenex-dry.

Rick, your photo "genius" is amazing!  I spoke with Mary Shults this afternoon -- I was seeking some professional help to get over all the fun we had last week!  Thanks for keeping the memories alive--I'll send you the bill!

comment by Ricky Corless

The twinkling eyes and broad smiles tell the story of Reunion 2.  Kathryn, you deliciously captured the weekend.  Who chose the music for both DVDs, you or Charlie? Particularly liked Tim McGraw and Lionel Ritchey on this one, My Old Friend and I'm Going Home.Dovie Wingard, ex-Briarcliffer, gave me a newspaper article about memory research.  It talked about emotions being attached to memories. Reunion 1 dusted off the memories, and Reunion 2 ushered in the emotions.Kathryn, your the bomb!!

comment by Bonnie Bowen

I got the reunion DVD and it totally captured the wonderful and special times shared by everyone at the reunion!!  Kathryn, thanks so much!  You did a fantastic job!!  I totally agree with Jane and George's remarks that "the DVD reminds us how lucky we all are to have so many wonderful memories and friends."  We had an incredible weekend and so much fun reconnecting with classmates that we hadn't seen in 40 years!  I had a fantastic time and the memories will last forever!  Just sorry that I didn't have enough time to speak to everyone that I wanted too!  Looking forward to having more get togethers in the future and mini-reunions!!!

comment by Kathryn Underwood Hill

Thanks for the wonderful compliments on the DVDs!  It was great fun & I'm sure that I could put names & faces together for the next 40 years! Seriously, I've looked at all the smiling faces for many months now & I can't imagine an overall happier group than our Class of '68.  I know we've all had our share of heartaches, however, we are resilient & it shows in every smile, in every handshake, every hug and in every post that I've read. All the endless meetings, the daily phone calls with Rick & Tricia, looking at more yearbook pictures than I wanted to -- were all worth it when I saw classmates walk through the doors of the Westin & immediately renew old friendships with hugs, laughter & joy.Thank you all for making a great weekend!

Happy New Year everyone!  I missed the after Christmas get together...bummer, but hope to make it next time. Maybe there will be a "Class of '68 Get Together"  before December... that would be great. We couldn't agree with you more Rick.  This makes all the work "the committee" has done so worth while ... to bring back together so many great friends and memories on the 29th & 30th. Can't wait to see everyone.  Thank you Kathryn.

I immediately watched my DVD too - awesome!!  Thank you SO much for doing this!

I just ordered my CD from Katheryn today.  Can’t wait to get it!  Thanks to all the committee members, I did attend the reunion from afar!  I have had the best time checking out the website.  If I am missing from our family room, my husband knows where to find me…in front of the computer walking down memory lane!  We are tentatively planning a trip back to Atlanta for Christmas, and a certain trip for next June.  Jane, please keep me up to date with any future plans for another get together.  Being 58 is even better when you are among friends!

comment by Jan Thibadeau Francis

I had wondered it any pictures had been posted from the after Christmas gathering at Benchwarmers.  I'll look forward to seeing them, Rick.  It was fun-I plan to go next year and will try to talk it up in the meantime.  I saw some old friends from the class of '67 which was great, as well as other random Barons and Baronettes!

comment by Patrick J. Chauncey

Hello everyone, I received an interesting phone call today from an old friend and classmate from Briarcliff "Dave Bauchman".  He told me about this website, It's just wonderful to read all the "stuff" people have to say after all these 46? years or so? I remember the majority of those mentioned here on this blog from the class of 67 anyway. As for myself I'm retired and just "mess around" with "HOT RODS AND GUNS"  and build an occasional Race Engine/ Performance engine every once in a while as that's what I did the majority of my adulthood. I live in Buford, Georgia (Lake Lanier area) with my lovely wife Cindy who is a Registered Nurse of some 40 years. I e-mail and see several old  Briarcliff Class Mates almost daily and we still talk about the "old days at Briarcliff". It's my opinion that we were really Blessed to have that community to live in. Seems like the worlds so far away from our way of being taught to live life doesn't it? I spent some time with another class mate yesterday "David Summerville" of the class of 67 and we talked about life in general and our families. I have a Daughter and a Son from my first marriage and I also have 3 Step Son's. Thanks for the entertainment and Have a great day!!

comment by Amy (Shulman) Haney

I love seeing all these memories!  (And I'm pleasantly surprised that I remember most of them - maybe I didn't kill off all my brain cells in the 60's after all!). Hey Ben - I pulled out my Senior yearbook too and was immediately transported back to high school - the best part was all the comments by my friends.  Boy, we really thought we all were something (and we were, of course!).  Can't wait to see everyone at the reunion!

comment by Lynne Waller

Alright...I can top anyone in this class who went to anyone's first, second, or third birthday party and has pictures to prove it.  Pat Fox and I were born on the same day in the same hospital (Crawford Long) and our bassinets were side by side in the nursery!  Ok, I made up the bassinet part, but we really were born on the same day.  And at that time, my parents lived in the Virginia/Highlands area and I don't know where Pat lived.  I think our fathers casually knew each other and got into a fight over who had the cutest first born child in the nursery.  My dad won.  So if anyone can claim to know another classmate inutero, then I'll relinquish the "Known Each Other the Longest" trophy.

comment by Ben Jones

OK, Lynn.  You and Pat may have shared bordering bassinets, but he never ran over a mail box and three trash cans while triple dating with David Dyer and Randy Campbell in my dad's station wagon with a rear-facing third seat.  Two flat tires.  Your dad picked you up in his bathrobe, had a flat tire on the way home, and, at his insistence (and implied threat) we never dated again.  Alas, but we all ended up OK.  And, by the way Mary Shultz, I just read your message. Get your self to this reunion.  You were the glue of our class.  The one who kept us all together and whom we were all glad to see every day.

comment by Jan Thibadeau Francis

I, too,  hope we will have a follow-up picnic or something before too long.  This was the first I'd heard about it, but I would be able to help organize it.  (While I'm at it, I'll volunteer Becky, too!)  I have more talking to do with everybody, just like Marsha, Susan and others said!  Maybe we'll launch the idea (soon?) at the post-reunion meeting?

comment by Marsha Parham Capo

"good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget."  We needed a lodge and a week to sit with each other.  The lights flashed Saturday Night, and I had not talked to so many!!  Trish said we have this site for 3 years??? so we have no excuse.

comment by Ben Jones

You are so right, Marsha.  By the way, folks, the last thing Marsha said to me 40 years ago after school was over, was that she hoped I knew she was taller than me.  The first thing she said last Friday, after 40 long years was, " Hey, Ben, I'm still taller than you."  What a memory!  Drove me to drink!  At least she was kind enough not to mention the bald pate.

comment by Rick Corless

I betcha if we dropped a hint that there was going to be a little picnic get together within the next couple of weeks there might be a few locals interested. Ya think?

comment by Susan Salyer Wilson

Ricky,     I love the bar-b-que idea. And who knew, that 40 years later, Ricky Corless would be the heart of our class! What an outstanding job you did on Sat. night with the entire presentation. I'm with Marsha, I'm not through talking- but my family says I'll never be through! Let's get together again while we can still read nametags.

comment by Marsha Parham Capo

Actually Susan, I can't read without my reading glasses, and Ben Jones....you ought to be a novalist!!!   I did say, "I'm still taller than you" Friday, but the rest...???.  Trish Gaston and I were the center of the drill team line (when Kippy Simmons and Ellen Lyle graduated.)    As my niece says, "embrace it".  And Rick/Ricky--you have been so positive, and an encourager and these are admirable things.  I saw the picture of your son and saw you.  November and December get so busy, but a gathering is always good.

comment by Ricky Corless

Thank you Susan and Marsha, but I'm still the Court Jester.  If we put together a Bar-B-Que it will be the girls that organize it, just like they did the reunion.

comment by Jane & George Reed

We got the new reunion DVD today and once again Kathryn has done an outstanding job.  Looking at the DVD reminds us how lucky we all are to have so many wonderful memories and friends.  40 yrs. is a long time, but it doesn't feel like it.  We all reconnected with each other as if we had been on summer break.  Time was to short..we didn't get to talk to everyone, but we remember you all with fondness.  Thanks for making the weekend very special.Looking forward to a "mini" reunion in the future.

comment by Sondra Berse

Where did the time go? I'm looking forward to the big event. I just have to drive from Sagamore Hills to the pub and the school...shouldn't be a problem!!!!

comment by Mike Roberts

I am lookfing forward to seeing everyone.  My first son, Michael Jr., got married May 31, 2008.  For those of you who are TV buffs, he married Alana Del La Garza, Alana is currently the Assistant District Attorney on Law and Order, the show is the orginal Law and Order.  Obviously we are very proud, I hope she continues to be very successful so I can retire sooner.

comment by Anne Green Hodges

What a great reunion!  Everyone looks SO GOOD.  We couldn't possibly be the age we are!  Thanks to all the committee who worked so hard.

comment by Shelly Frankel Forer

It was so much fun to see everyone on Friday night. I'm sorry I could not be there Saturday night as well.  Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put this reunion together!Lynne, write me back a long note!!Love, Shelly

This is Peggy's brother. Heard about your reunion from Rick and just wanted to say HELLO to everyone. I think I know about as many Class of 68'ers as I know from my own class (65). Been overseas for the past 30+ years..... living in Dubai, UAE since 97 so I don't run into many Briarcliff alumni's and haven't visited the old homestead in quite a while, but I suppose once a Baron.... always a Baron. Y'all enjoy the reunion.... it'll be an eye-opener... and lots of fun.

comment by Ruth ( Arnott) Lowe

What fun to find this site! I remember many of your names and wonder if anyone remembers me?  I came to Briarcliff my junior year from San Diego, California...along with my sister, Charline ('70) and brother, Charlie ('72).  It would be so much fun to walk the halls again with you!  After returning to CA, I married and we had 4 children.  I spent the last 20 years homeschooling and just graduated the youngest.   We live in Normal, Illinois.
